NSY Lock-In FAQs

Hi Parents,
We can’t wait to host your students for our middle school lock-in on September 20th-21st! We know sending your middle schooler to an overnight event can bring up questions of safety and security. We are going to great lengths to ensure each and every student is well taken care of at this event. We hope this FAQ information will help ease some of those questions and instill trust that your student will not only have an amazing experience but will also be kept safe.

WHEN IS THE EVENT?
NSY Middle School Lock-In will be on September 20th and 21st from 7 PM - 9 AM

WHERE WILL THE EVENT TAKE PLACE?
Primarily we will be at Calvary Chapel Northside. It is not, however, a true lock-in because we will have an offsite activity at Urban Air. We will leave the church at 9:30 PM and return to the church at 1 AM. We will be at Urban Air after hours and have the place rented out all to ourselves (aside from the workers of course!). We will then be at the church for the remainder of the event until parent pick-up at 9 AM.

WHO CAN ATTEND THE EVENT?
This event is for grade 6-8 with one exception: a couple of our groups at NSY are 8th and 9th grade combined. If you are in one of those groups, you are welcome to attend as well! Not sure if that is your group? Ask your Group Leader!

WILL MY STUDENT BE WITH STUDENTS OF THE OPPOSITE GENDER?
Boys and Girls will be together until we arrive back at the church from our offsite event. After 1 AM, boys and girls will do activities separate from each other in different sections of the building until breakfast and our final session at 7:00 AM. Our group leaders and chaperones will ensure that students stay in their designated areas.
*See Schedule for More Details*

WHERE WILL MY STUDENT SLEEP?
Boys will sleep in room 104 of the infant hallway. Girls will sleep in rooms 204 and 205 of the pre-elementary area.

WHAT KIND OF SECURITY WILL BE AT THE EVENT?
As we do on Wednesday nights, we will have a police officer in our parking lot for the duration of the event. Additionally, our alarm system will be set and will notify us if any student opens a door to exit their designated area or the building.

WHO WILL BE TRANSPORTING MY STUDENT?
Our amazing group leaders and parent chaperones will be transporting students to and from Urban Air. They will not make any other stops along the way. All drivers will be over the age of 25 with a clean driving record.

HOW MANY ADULTS WILL BE ON-SITE?
Between our group leaders and parent chaperones we will have plenty of adults on site to monitor your students. All of our leaders and chaperones are background-checked and chosen with safety and security in mind. We will have at least one adult to every 5 students on-site throughout the event. There will never be just one leader in a room with students; nor will there ever be two leaders in a room with just one student.

WHAT ABOUT PHONES?
Students will be allowed to have their phones with them until we return to the church after our off-site activity at 1 AM. Students will be encouraged to keep their phones put away during this time. Upon returning to the church, students will need to turn their phones into a bucket monitored by their group leader until breakfast the following morning. If your student needs to keep their phone on them for medical purposes or some other reason validated by a parent, exceptions will be considered upon email or written request by the parent. Email youth@ccnorthside.com if this is the case for your student.

WILL FOOD BE PROVIDED?
We will be serving pizza while at Urban Air as well as a late-night snack when we return to the church. Students are also welcome to bring snacks of their own.

WHY A LOCK-IN?
Excellent question! Why on earth would we want to stay up all night with a bunch of middle schoolers? Because we know middle schoolers and we are passionate about introducing your students to Jesus! Middle schoolers love doing crazy things like *trying* to stay up all night! They love spending time with their friends! Our middle schoolers love growing deeper in their faith! And they love worship! Why not put an event on where they can do all those things and the FOCUS BE ON JESUS! NSY is all about students taking ownership of their faith. That does not change for events like this. We are going to have teachings grounded in GOD’S WORD, authentic WORSHIP, time for students to PRAY together and be prayed for, and so much FELLOWSHIP (community that’s focus is connecting on Jesus). One thing that we are passionate about at NSY is students feeling a sense of belonging. Events like this help to provide that. The high-energy, fun games, group times, food, etc. help students to connect with each other. It helps to show them they are not alone in the struggles they face and their desire to grow deeper in their faith. It helps them feel a sense of belonging which in turn causes them to get more out of NSY and more importantly helps them to grow in their walk with God. We are so thankful that you trust us to invest in your students’ lives week in and week out at NSY. And we would love the opportunity to continue that at our NSY Lock-In!
